Steven J. Fajardo was selected for his Leadership and Commitment to Excellence. Steven began his law enforcement career in New York City in 1968. Steven worked as a Police Trainee and worked in East Harlem 23rd Precinct, a.k.a. Spanish Harlem. Fajardo worked as a Precinct Service Officer in the community relations division. Steven later moved to California and began a career with the Oakland Unified School District, during which time he received a Board Resolution for Heroism .In 2006.

Steven had the distinction of being the only Latino Police Chief in the Bay Area when he headed a community college department. Steven retired from the college and returned to OUSD as a Lieutenant and retired from there. Steven accepted a position in the Hayward School District where he acted as Coordinator of Security and Safety and he retired here in September 2017. Steven has been a member of the NLPOA Alameda County Chapter, California, for over 30-years and has held various elected positions on the local, state and national boards. Steven directed the NLPOA Puerto Rico Relief Team in 2017/2018.
