Fifteen Fresno County Students Receiving Scholarships

Fifteen High School Seniors from within Fresno County High Schools will each be receiving $1,000 scholarships from the National Latino Peace Officers Association Fresno County. The National Latino Peace Officers Association Fresno County (NLPOA Fresno County) is proud to be able to provide these scholarships for the Eighth year. These funds are generated as result of the 2017 NLPOA Fresno County Scholarship Golf Tournament. The High School students are selected from over 100 applicants from throughout Fresno County. The students are selected based on their GPA’s, giving back to their community and their essay as to “What does my family means to me.” Some of the students were involved in their school governing boards, athletic programs and volunteer community programs. The essays were very touching and it was difficult to select fifteen from a large amount of great essays.

The 15 students selected this year are:

Jocelyn Alvarez, Kerman High School                                      Karla Barerra, Mendota High School
Antonio Borjas, Clovis High School                                            Mayahuel Garcia, Edison High School
Daisy Landeros-Loera, Orange Cover High School              Federico Madera, Coalinga High School
Allynn Martinez, Fowler High School                                       Crystal Martinez, Reedley High School
Jasmin Montanez, Orange Cover High School                      Yasmin Olvera, Riverdale High School
Maria Perez, Tranquility High School                                        Hannah Ravizza, Clovis High School
Sydney Rivera, Kingsburg High School                                     Ashton Salinas, Hoover High School
Eileen Zapien, Parlier High School

Several of the students will be attending Fresno State University with the others attending colleges and universities throughout the United States. The National Latino Peace Officers Association Fresno County will be hosted the students at a luncheon on June 28 2017, in conjunction with the Fresno Grizzlies, where they received their check and certificate.
