This posting is open to both lateral transfers and individuals who are new to law enforcement and interested in starting a career as a police officer. If hired, the City of Dublin will sponsor non-certified new hires to attend a Basic Peace Officer Training Academy of the City’s choosing. Lateral transfers will need to provide proof of OPOTA certification.
The Dublin Police Department subscribes to the “Community-Oriented Policing” philosophy and, therefore, the primary emphasis of the position involves community service. Officers are required to take a problem-solving approach to the situations they encounter on a day to day basis and to interact with the residents on a regular basis within their assigned districts to address relevant concerns facing the community.
The City of Dublin Police Department is comprised of full-time officer positions in the following areas, Patrol, Detective Bureau, Community Impact Unit and Community Education Unit (school resource officers). Further, the department is proud to be able to provide ancillary support to the City through the following areas, Background Investigations, Bicycle Officers, Chaplain Liaison Officer, Community Liaison Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Drone Pilot, Field Training Officer, Range Officer, Recruitment Team Member, Traffic Accident Investigators and our Surveillance Team. Given the nature of this classification’s duties/responsibilities, it has been designated as Non-Exempt under the governing Fair Labor Standards Act regulations and, therefore, is entitled to formal overtime compensation and/or formal compensatory time.

Position Summary

Typical Duties
Coordinator duties may include, but are not limited to:
Conducting program/course evaluations and providing the Dean and certifying varied public safety courses in compliance with certification mandates regulated by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and Standards and Training for Corrections (STC). This also includes evaluating instructional methods and instructor evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications
Have a bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in the subject matter area to be taught; OR have an associate’s degree and six years of professional experience in the subject matter area to be taught; OR the equivalent.* All degrees must be from an accredited institution, completed by time of hire.
Have 2 years peace officer first-level supervisory experience (most commonly the rank of sergeant).
Candidates must possess a POST Supervisor or STC Supervisor certificate, and meet the required training, education, or college degree with law enforcement experience. For the POST Supervisory Certificate, applicants must have at least 60 semester units, two years of supervisory experience, and completion of the POST Supervisory Course.
All degrees must be from an accredited institution, completed by August 20, 2026.

The annual salary range for the incoming Chief of Police is open and dependent upon qualifications. The City also offers a highly competitive benefit package that includes participation in CalPERS retirement, with 2% at 50 years of age for classic members; “PEPRA” members receive 2% at 62 years of age.
