END OF AN ERA: DEPUTY CHIEF MONTOYA RETIRES AFTER 40 YEARS OF SERVICE
In 1984, while the world was dancing to Prince’s Purple Rain, watching Ghostbusters in theaters, and waiting for the first Apple Macintosh to boot up, a young recruit walked into the Northglenn Police Department full of hope and a heart ready to serve.
That recruit was our very own Joseph Montoya, and this week, after 40 years of unwavering dedication, 34 of them with your Denver Police Department, Deputy Chief Montoya is officially retiring.
From pounding the pavement in the ’80s, to navigating the ever-changing landscape of public safety in the digital age, Joe rose through the ranks with integrity, compassion, and a relentless commitment to justice. Here before body cams, GPS, or even email (yep—paper reports were king), through it all, Joe remained a steady presence, a mentor to many, and a true symbol of what leadership in law enforcement should look like.
As Joe hangs up the badge for the last time, we salute not just a career, but a calling.
